The heavily polluted weather in all parts of the province lasted for 2 days, which did not exceed the national target. In addition, in 2023, the forest coverage rate in the province reached 53.03%, the mangrove area reached 10,600 hectares, there were 1,361 nature reserves at or above the county level, and 36 important international, national and provincial wetlands were built, all of which ranked among the top in the country.
Last year, Guangdong vigorously promoted the concentration control of enterprises in key industries. For example, during the high ozone season from August to October, the province organized and carried out air quality improvement supervision and training in key industries such as coal, electricity, steel, cement, glass, petrochemical, oil storage and sales, and helped 2,046 enterprises. In terms of rural environmental improvement, in the past year, Guangdong promoted rural domestic garbage, sewage treatment and toilet revolution as a whole, and continued to promote rural environmental improvement in various places, completing environmental improvement in 1,395 administrative villages, and the popularization rate of harmless sanitary toilets reached over 96%.

In vigorously promoting the construction of "waste-free cities", all nine cities in the Pearl River Delta have been included in the national list of "waste-free cities" in the 14 th Five-Year Plan. The total treatment capacity of domestic waste is 163,000 tons/day, and the incineration accounts for 83%. Ten cities have basically achieved "zero landfill" of primary domestic waste.

In deepening the trading of carbon emission rights, by the end of 2023, the cumulative turnover of carbon emission quotas in the province was 224 million tons, with a cumulative turnover of 6.368 billion yuan, ranking first in the national regional carbon market.
